GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 316822
evince displays garbage in a pdf file
Last modified: 2005-12-27 22:47:51 UTC
Distribution/Version: FC4 i opened a pdf file from evolution. most of the text is garbage. i opened the same file in xpdf, kpdf, and kghostview. in all of these three, it displays proper text. i have both the offending pdf and a screenshot of what is displayed, which i can email if you'd like. don't know how to attach them herein.
Please use the "Create a New Attachment" link to attach them here...
Created attachment 52695 [details] screenshot of the problem
Created attachment 52696 [details] the offending pdf this is the pdf which causes the problem shown in the screen shot. it was likely generated on an apple box.
well, duh! how did i miss such an obvious way to attach? sheesh!
This PDF renders fine for me on evince 0.4.0/poppler 0.4.2 (cairo) Here's what the text says at the top FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: David Lyles <phone number here> COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS GO FINE ART
so. did you look at the screen shot i attached? i can see that text. but all the rest of it is unintelligible -- only in evince, not xpdf, et. al. poppler-0.4.1-1.1 FC4 rpms poppler and evince.
yeah I did look at the screenshot, I don't know why I pasted that text, I can see all the other text as well.
This is probably a dup of bug 316620. John, is it possible for you to update your version of poppler and see if this bug still happen?
I had problems with this pdf, using poppler 0.4.1. I updated to 0.4.3 and the problem no longer occurred.
Thanks a lot for testing again :) Let everyone feel free to reopen if problem still appears, but I am closing now.
