Description armado@hellug.gr 2005-07-26 21:00:44 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When you try to specify a background for a directory in nautilus window,
you can drang and drop backgrounds to nautilus window, and they appear.
But, when you are about to choose a background you test a lot of backgrounds
before you accept the one you want.
The bug appear when you "play" with the backgrounds and the nautilus window,
trying a number of backgrounds until to accept the one.
After the 5-8 backgrounds applying in the nautilus window, and using the mouse
wheel to select more backgrounds from the list, the background list in the
window "Edit -> Backgrounds and Emblems" does not responde as the user wants. It
does not apply the new background i want, or it does not even appear the
background icon when i drag and drop the background to the nautilus directory
window.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to "Edit -> Backgrounds and Emblems"
2. Try "playing/applying" backgrounds to the nautilus directory window a few
times (5-10 times)
3. This nautilus feature does not work right.

Actual results:
2 things happen.
1) Does not allow you to change the background after a few times, or
2) Does not select the correct background icon after you use the mouse wheel to
scroll up or down, when you click the background icon before you start moving it
to the nautilus window.

Expected results:
To change the background of the nautilus windows as many times as i user wants.

Does this happen every time?
Yes, after a few seconds of playing with the "Edit -> Backgrounds and Emblems"
window and applying backgrounds.

I can confirm part 2 of this bug. The backgrounds are initially right when
clicking and dragging but after scrolling using the mouse wheel, the background
seems to be one off; the background I click ends up being the background below
it in the list, when I drag my mouse.

This happens with Patterns, Colors, and Emblems.

Additionally the Dark GNOME background doesn't seem to work and gives a really
horrible background which can be seen here:

changing the GNOME Version as well.

Part 2 is a duplicate of bug 308996. I'd really like to know what the first part
is all about. I can drag backgrounds arbitrarily often to the Nautilus window.
The onliest issue here is that it doesn't highlight the container when the
pointer is above items, but that's a tiny issue (bug 47536).
Comment 4 Brent Smith (smitten) 2005-07-26 22:47:26 UTC
well, I am definitely seeing part 1 now as well. This seems to be really
arbitrary... If I scroll down to the bottom of the patterns and then try to
click and drag a couple times, it will stop working. I will then scroll
back up and it will start working again. Really weird.

How can I debug this besides looking at the code. Any ideas on what could
be causing this?

Has to do with the scrolling. After a while you cannot select one of the bottom
patterns anymore. When the scrolledwindow is at the top, you can click each of
the patterns and they are correctly highlighted. Scroll down one step, click the
lowest patterns you can see and the 'popup' either shows a different pattern or
shows the pattern higher than expected.
After a while the popup shows patterns from a lower row.
