I usually see my emails as Threaded Message List and there is no way to
mark thread as read. Only messages.

right, as a workaround you can highlight the entire therad and then mark it as 
read.
adding dependency.
related to bug 205977 which is about deleting an entire thread (not marking as 
read).

i think 2 keystrokes, ctrl-h ctrl-whatever is sufficient.
