GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 300052
yelp displays help files with incorrect or extra characters
Last modified: 2005-10-17 05:07:50 UTC
Distribution/Version: Slackware 10.1 View any help file. It is hard to explain this without an image, so I uploaded one here: http://users.757.org/~csh/help.jpg Basically things like sections, tables, and other tags are being rendered like this: SectionA A 1 SectionA A 2 SectionA A 3 FigureA 2-1A A gedit Window Choose AccessoriesA a??A Text Editor The A above is actually an A with a "hat", and the ?? above is a box with 4 single digit numbers in it, like you see when asian character sets are rendered without the right font/charset. The XML files appear to be parsed correctly, as I can read all of the help (so far), but I'm getting extra characters around structures related to XML tags like section, table, figure, etc.
Not much to say except that I get the same thing on Gentoo, I tried running yelp with a few different LANG/LC_ALL in case it was something locale related but no dice.

If there is a duplicate I think we can safely consider this confirmed, marking New. Relevant attachments, screenshots illustrating this issue http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=45747&action=view http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=45748&action=view
And the Unknown thing is definitely there with the latest released yelp.
Make that yelp 2.9.3 as in rawhide per now

I had the same problem with yelp 2.6.5 on Gentoo. I updated yelp to 2.10.0 and the problem has been resolved.
I had the same issue in gentoo as well. With 2.11.1, the problem seems to be resolved. Can we mark this as FIXED?

Fixed. The gecko backend does not have this issue.
