Display messages from Outlook users
Last modified: 2006-04-07 11:23:36 UTC
gtkhtml-3.1-3.2.2-2mdk (btw: using Evo 2.0.1 under Mandrake 10.1) Description of Problem: When receiving messages from Outlook users: - smileys [:-)] are displayed [J] within Evo - default HTML Outlook fonts (arial, size=3) are too small compared to mails coming from other clients (Evo for example), is there a way to make the rendering bigger for these specific messages? Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Ask an Outlook user to send this message in HTML : "test :-)" 2. Open the message in Evo Actual Results: See that ":-)" became "J" and that the fonts are small Expected Results: ":-)" displayed as ":-)" or the Outlookish emoticon How often does this happen? Everytime I receive a message from an Outlook user in HTML Additional Information: Here is a sample message. The text version is ok, the HTML one refers to Outlook emoticons and displays J instead of :-) From c.hourdeaux@libertysurf.fr Thu Nov 11 11:29:40 2004 Return-Path: <c.hourdeaux@libertysurf.fr> Received: from mailfe08.swip.net (212.247.154.225) by mail.libertysurf.net (6.5.036) id 4192ECED000D2AF5 for aaractingi@libertysurf.fr; Thu, 11 Nov 2004 11:29:40 +0100 X-T2-Posting-ID: D+/b/tZsFngM3hZt+iXTa7+vFNWPp/6psdAy4CAyCl0= Received: from [213.103.71.148] (HELO clem) by mailfe08.swip.net (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 4.2.6) with ESMTP id 20140557 for aaractingi@libertysurf.fr; Thu, 11 Nov 2004 11:29:39 +0100 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Cl=E9mence_Hourdeaux?= <c.hourdeaux@libertysurf.fr> To: "'Alexandre Aractingi'" <aaractingi@libertysurf.fr> Subject: Test Date: Thu, 11 Nov 2004 11:30:24 +0100 Message-ID: <001e01c4c7d9$74c7fa70$021ba8c0@clem> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_001F_01C4C7E1.D68C6270" X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.2627 Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1106 X-Evolution-Source: pop://aara0034_1_lsurf@pop.libertysurf.fr This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_001F_01C4C7E1.D68C6270 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit This is a smiley test :-) ------=_NextPart_000_001F_01C4C7E1.D68C6270 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit <html xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <meta name=ProgId content=Word.Document> <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Word 10"> <meta name=Originator content="Microsoft Word 10"> <link rel=File-List href="cid:filelist.xml@01C4C7E1.D5B4EE30"> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:OfficeDocumentSettings> <o:DoNotRelyOnCSS/> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:SpellingState>Clean</w:SpellingState> <w:DocumentKind>DocumentEmail</w:DocumentKind> <w:HyphenationZone>21</w:HyphenationZone> <w:EnvelopeVis/> <w:Compatibility> <w:BreakWrappedTables/> <w:SnapToGridInCell/> <w:WrapTextWithPunct/> <w:UseAsianBreakRules/> </w:Compatibility> <w:BrowserLevel>MicrosoftInternetExplorer4</w:BrowserLevel> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--> <style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Wingdings; panose-1:5 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0; mso-font-charset:2; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:0 268435456 0 0 -2147483648 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline; text-underline:single;} span.StyleCourrierlectronique17 {mso-style-type:personal-compose; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-ansi-font-size:10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt; font-family:Arial; mso-ascii-font-family:Arial; mso-hansi-font-family:Arial; mso-bidi-font-family:Arial; color:windowtext;} span.SpellE {mso-style-name:""; mso-spl-e:yes;} @page Section1 {size:595.3pt 841.9pt; margin:70.85pt 70.85pt 70.85pt 70.85pt; mso-header-margin:35.4pt; mso-footer-margin:35.4pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> <!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Tableau Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} </style> <![endif]--> </head> <body lang=FR link=blue vlink=purple style='tab-interval:35.4pt'> <div class=Section1> <p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt; font-family:Arial'>This <span class=SpellE>is</span> a <span class=SpellE>smiley</span> test </span></font><font size=2 face=Wingdings><span style='font-size: 10.0pt;font-family:Wingdings;mso-ascii-font-family:Arial;mso-hansi-font-family: Arial;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;mso-char-type:symbol;mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings'><span style='mso-char-type:symbol;mso-symbol-font-family:Wingdings'>J</span></span></font><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial'><o:p></o:p></span></font></p> </div> </body> </html> ------=_NextPart_000_001F_01C4C7E1.D68C6270--
retargetting from 2.1 to 2.5 to get rid of that ancient milestones.
Outlook uses Wingdings font to put up smileys. The character J is equivalent to :) and L is equivalent to :( Moreover outlook uses CSS formatting. The following line shows CSS formatting and Wingdings font usage for smileys. <span style='mso-char-type:symbol;mso-symbol-font-family:Wingdings'>J</span></span></font><font size=2 face=Arial> GtkHTML neither parse' CSS nor recognizes font face attribute.
