adding a $weekend setting to solve many i18n issues would be great, e.g. for 

see depending bugs for more details, e.g. bug 214645, bug 228248, bug 243933
and bug 266459 are much easier to solve if a $weekend setting would exist.
should also be in any kind of way combined with the locale settings...
(hackers will know better than me.)
