Description chris 2004-04-13 14:36:08 UTC
Package: Evolution
Priority: Wishlist
Version: 1.2
Synopsis: Limiting Image Size in Drag-Drop Attachments
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Mailer

Description:
A suggestion for a simple but very-useful feature: automatic resizing of
images that are drag-dropped onto the Composing a Message window:

(1) An option in composer preferences could read: * Prompt for resizing
when images over NNNN kb are dropped onto Composer window.

(2) When an image over the set size was dropped, a resize dialog would
appear. This could be simple ("Resize image to <100kb?") or complex
(specify the resize options). The user should have the option of not
resizing.

This enhancement would make it far easier to e-mail images from
multi-megapixel digital cameras without swamping out the mail queue or
remote mailbox (the alternative is to open with gThumb or the Gimp,
resize, Save As, then drag-and-drop).

changing component to "Mailer" to get rid of the UI component, also reassigning
as discussed with nags... adding UI keyword.

still missing in 2.5.5; however this requires image manipulation stuff, perhaps this could be done by an eplugin depending on some image manipulation library. :-/

I would really appreciate a feature like this too. When sending an image with outlook, it wil recognise the attachment as an image and offers the choice to scale the image to a smaller size. I would like something similar (or the same) in Evolution too.

Anyway, thanks a lot for Evolution as it is so far. I really love it. :)

Bumping version to a stable release.
Comment 7 Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) 2009-01-14 22:21:44 UTC
After this was proposed for Evolution in 2004, it was implemented in Apple Mail. <http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/emailresize.html>

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
