Details

Description Ian Scott 2003-06-05 17:33:00 UTC
Description of Problem:

Now here's a weird one! Replying to a specific email causes text to type
backwards. From right to left. As if it is Chinese or something.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Click on Reply to email.
2. See cursor is in the default "On Thursday..... wrote:" line, and move
cursor to top of message body.
3. Begin typing.

Actual Results:
Typing is displayed backwards. Typing moves from right to left, with words
being typed backwards.

Expected Results:
Words should be typed from left to right.

How often does this happen?
Happens with one particular email. See Headers Below and attached screen
shot of results of trying to type in reply window.

I would like to attatch the email, but saving it causes it to be
converted to plain text.

What should I do with it?
Comment 12 Sean Bruno 2003-07-02 18:00:16 UTC
Can I just send you a copy of my mbox?
Comment 13 Larry Ewing 2003-07-02 19:10:29 UTC
I think Radek found the probalem today so we probably don't need an
extra copy of anything. I appreciate the offer though.
Comment 14 Sean Bruno 2003-07-02 19:12:22 UTC
I will keep the message in my inbox until the next release appears. I
will then verify the problem is fixed and notify you folks of my findings.

I can no longer reproduce this problem in Evolution 1.5 with same test
mails that type backwards in 1.4.
Assuming this is fixed.

Comment 28 Dave Malcolm 2004-06-03 19:30:35 UTC
I've got a bug report in which this behaviour was reproduced inside
Evolution 1.5.3; see
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=121986

So is this actually fixed, or has it merely hidden itself better (and
if so, any ideas which version of gtkhtml contained the fix?)
Comment 29 Gerardo Marin 2004-06-05 06:37:59 UTC
Dave, can you provide a sample mail?
Comment 30 Radek Doulik 2004-06-08 21:17:27 UTC
I am not sure when the fix went in, but 1.5.3 is already pretty old. I
guess i will be unable to fix it without mail which can reproduce that :(
Comment 31 Gerardo Marin 2004-06-08 23:29:54 UTC
Radek, I received it but is private. I'll test and if still fails will
send it to you.
Comment 32 Radek Doulik 2004-07-02 13:41:38 UTC
So Gerardo, does it fail or not?
Comment 33 Gerardo Marin 2004-07-02 16:57:43 UTC
I'm unable to reproduce the problem using Evolution 1.5.9.2 +
gtkhtml2-3.1.16-2.1 with sample received.
Assuming fixed.

Comment 35 Hartmut Müller 2005-08-26 14:01:34 UTC
I have still problems with writing from right to left when replying to a html
mail (and wrinting in plain text mode). This bug shows only when replying to
some specific html mails.

Installed versions:
gtkhtml 1.1.10-r1
libgtkhtml 3.6.2
evolution 2.2.3
gnome 2.6.2-r1

on gentoo linux
Comment 36 Alex G. 2005-10-18 23:04:51 UTC
I'm having the exact same problem in Ubuntu 5.10 replying to certain html emails.

evolution 2.4.1
gtkhtml 3.8
gnome 2.12
Comment 37 Poornima 2005-10-19 04:17:46 UTC
Reopening the bug based on comment#36
Comment 38 Ian Wilder 2005-12-07 19:46:42 UTC
this happens on Evolution 2.5.2 on gentoo as well.

libgtkhtml 3.9.2
gnome 2.13.1

seems to only happen when replying to messages with the original message quoted.
Comment 39 André Klapper 2006-01-10 01:31:01 UTC
i'm marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 273512.
both bugs have many comments, so i'm unsure, but bug 273512 is newer, and targetted. thanks everybody, and please do file comments at bug 273512 to help fixing this.
