Description Celso Pinto 2005-03-28 21:56:11 UTC
Distribution/Version: Ubuntu

When you click on previous during play of a song, instead of starting to play
the previous song, rhythmbox goes back to the start of the song currently played.

It's very confusing because if you really want to move to the previous song you
have to go to the context menu twice to press the previous menu item. And in
that process, it only works during the first few seconds of the song.

Maybe you should add a better context menu to the system tray.

patch

In CVS (and possibly 0.9.0) the "Previous" button always goes to the previous
song and never seeks back to the start - but for some reason using other
methods (menu item, keyboard shortcut, or tray icon) doesn't do that. The
attached patch changes it so that it doesn't seek back to the start with any
method.

Can confirm this bug is still valid for 0.9.3.1 from pre-release dapper.
The behaviour of the "previous" toolbar button and the shortcut "Alt+Left" is not consistent.

updated patch

Patch to make the previous button in the UI act the same as everything else.
Comment 4 Amadeus 2006-02-22 00:27:22 UTC
Plese don't remove this feature.

I see and use the Previous and Forward as "jump to begining" and "jump to end" rather than previous and next. And I think many do the same.

When you look at them as jumps it makes sense.
Comment 5 Bastien Nocera 2006-02-26 12:23:40 UTC
Totem, hardware CD players, and many playback devices (like the iPod) will go back to the beginning of the song when pressing the back button |< and not in the first few seconds of the song. I think it makes a lot of sense for Rhythmbox to act the same.

Symbol description

I just found out that the symbols on the buttons have meanings.

Comment 13 Jonathan Matthew 2008-11-09 11:05:56 UTC
Everything is consistent now (since bug 521329) and I agree with comment 5 that the behaviour makes sense.
