GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 144325
A11y issues with gnome-keyboard-properties
Last modified: 2005-02-05 14:52:40 UTC
open keyboard preferences capplet. The following bugs happen 1. In the keyboard tab - the checkbox label - "Key press repeat when key is held down" is not clearly understandable. 2. When user places focus on the spin button and starts to adjust the value using the arrow key, for every keypress, the entire label ( description) the widget name and the value is mentioned. The preferable thing is to mention just the adjusted value after the initial description. 3. The labels in keyboard tab - "Repeat Keys" and "Cursor Blinking" are not read. 4. In the layouts page tab - "Available layouts" and "Selected Layouts" is not read. 5. in the layout options lab, the column header labels are not read. The impact of 3, 4, 5 is that the blind user will never know why he is in a list box or a radio button sets etc. If these labels are not read.
This bug was originally logged in Sun internal bug tracking system by Hema. I do not agree with item 1. The checkbox label is "Key presses repeaat when the key is held down". I will open a separate bug against gnopernicus for item 2. I will open a separate bug in gnopernicus for item 3. This sounds l;ike an issue which has been duscussed before but I cannot find a bug number corresponding to it. In gnome-keyboard-properties.glade a mnemonic widget is not specified for the labels. I assume that the corresponding GtkTreeView widgets should be the mnemonic widget.

This bug seems to be fixed with the changes in the dialog. The 2 first labels of the patches have a mnemonic, the 2 others have changed so this part is not revelent. I'm closing this bug. Feel free to reopen if you think there is still an issue.
