GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 105638
Can't drop the entries in "Actions" menu to the desktop
Last modified: 2020-11-06 20:20:38 UTC
Well, you can't drop the entries in "Actions" menu to the desktop. :-)
moving to GNOMEVER2.2
Thanks for your bug report. Some thoughts: Why should you be able to do so? Not all of them (gnome-panel-screenshot does) represent applications, they trigger internal panel actions which then potentially result in some user visible action. I don't think we can generate desktop suitable launchers. Is there any point in having them on the desktop? regs, Chris
The point is exactly the same of having any other application on the desktop. The user doesn't know/care about the implementation, if he can add the icon to the panel, he expects to be able to put it on desktop as well.
Also there should be an ability to add some launchers from the desktop (or any other place) to the Actions menu. It would be a very useful feature, users want to have an ability to customize the Actions menu, there are several bugreports about this ( for example #98222 ). It seems adding this feature doesn't change any translatable strings, so it could be included ASAP (before gnome 2.8). Should I report another bug or we can just change summary of this bugreport?
Mantas: please open an enhancement bug (and note that it breaks feature freeze)

Still there in 2.14.

Actually, you can drag & drop entries to the desktop at the moment, but then the folders are COPIES to ~/Desktop instead of a starter being created. "Personal home" can't be dropped to the desktop at all: "can't copy folder to itself" (it tries to copy it)
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
