IPTC-Headers is a standard that allows entering Meta-information to jpeg's.
It is expected from press photographers that they transmit their pictures
to redactions according to this standard. The only hindrance that keeps
press-photographers away from using Gimp is the lack of IPTC-support.

You will find much more information about that in bug #94416.
By the way, I think that the lack of CMYK support and EXIF support
are other things that keep press-photographers away from using GIMP...
