Description Shane O'Connor 2002-06-26 15:59:22 UTC
Testing a build from CVS 25th June

I set up 5 workspaces

I opened the following apps in the following workspaces:
Workspace 1 - gnome-calculator
Workspace 2 - gedit
Workspace 3 - eog

I made Workspace 1 the current display and logged out and ticked save
session box.

Logged back in and
- Only 2 workspaces were present (Workspace 3 - 5 were missing)
- Workspace 2 was current display
- Gedit was displayed in Worksace 2 but Nautilus application was also
opened (home folder) in Workspace 2
- Workspace 3 (with eog), 4 & 5 disappeared
- Desktop icons all sitting on top of each other.

Note: gnome-calculator and gedit were displayed in the correct workspaces.
A fix was put in for gedit and saving itself correctly in gnome sessions
(bug #84986) - could this have had an impact?

Fede, Jacob: comments?

[Search for 'luis spamming' to catch every instance of this email.]
In order to better track Sun's bugs for Sun and Ximian's internal use, I've
added a temporary keyword to some bugs. I apologize for the spam, and for the
use of an additional keyword, but this is the best way for Sun to track 'it's'
bugs without interfering with the community's own triage and bug behavior. If
you have any questions or objections, please drop me a note at louie@ximian.com
or email bugmaster@gnome.org for more open discussion.

This was discussed on the mailing list:

http://lists.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2002-June/msg00588.html

Are you using metacity? Sawfish didn't seem to have these problems.
Comment 4 Shane O'Connor 2002-07-04 15:51:29 UTC
yes - i am using metacity
Comment 5 Federico Mena Quintero 2002-07-05 00:28:28 UTC
Re-assigning to Metacity, then.
Comment 6 Havoc Pennington 2002-07-14 03:26:34 UTC
I don't actually buy that this is a metacity bug. (Well, there are
several bugs here. But losing number of workspaces, and
piling up desktop icons, do not sound like metacity bugs to me.
Failing to remember the current space is a metacity bug but I don't
think it's the main issue.)
Comment 7 Shane O'Connor 2002-07-22 15:16:43 UTC
any news on this bug?
Comment 8 jacob berkman 2002-07-22 15:41:04 UTC
not from my side of things...
Comment 9 prabhut 2002-07-25 08:06:24 UTC
I tested this bug on solaris sparc 5.8 with the source on "July 25".
I followed the same sequence as given in the bug and found the
following :

1. I am getting all the 5 workspaces.
2. calculator was seen on 1st WS.
3. Gedit was also seen on 1st WS. This is a bug.
4. EOG didn't come up at all. This is a bug.
Comment 10 Jayaraj P R 2002-07-25 09:41:13 UTC
Looks like the issues still remaining are:

1) GEdit coming on workspace 1 always
2) EOG not coming up (though process is running)
3) Nautilus desktop icons sitting on top of each other.

Havoc: If you feel that 1) above is a metacity bug, do we need to
file a separate bug against metacity?

Louie: Can somebody look into the nautilus issue?
Comment 11 Shane O'Connor 2002-07-25 12:01:13 UTC
There is are existing bugs for the gedit problem - bug# 84986 - and
for the EOG problem - bug #84989.

The gedit problem was closed but reopened.

The EGO problem was closed as fixed - please re-open if this issue is
still visible.
Comment 12 Luis Villa 2002-07-26 00:56:48 UTC
The desktop icons are a separate bug and should be filed as such, with
a specific reproduction scenario (we've been completely unable to
duplicate that here.) Shane, thanks for tracking down the other two.
I'm going to close this bug; anyone who wants to track these should be
going to the other relevant bugs.
Comment 13 Shane O'Connor 2002-07-26 09:54:58 UTC
Filing new bug for desktop icons issue (bug #89124) - closing this
bug.
