GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 758112
system freezes hard after logout
Last modified: 2016-01-11 15:36:33 UTC
Version: 3.18.2 After upgrading gnome-shell from 3.18.1 to 3.18.2, the system freezes whenever I log out from a GNOME session. The screen turns black, but I can't move the mouse anymore or switch to the console. The only way to get back to a working system is a hard power reset. Running git bisect identifies 5583f881df39ee17bf136002e1fab7bb48e69997 as the faulty commit: "gdm: don't emit start-session-when-ready from idle function" Reverting that commit makes gnome-shell work again properly and I can log out properly again.
gdm is at version 3.18.0, i.e. the latest available stable release.
I can confirm that behaviour. Multi-user experience is completely broken for me.

I confirm that the cogl patch https://git.gnome.org/browse/cogl/commit/?h=cogl-1.22&id=a583492ea2aa3ea8e78c269bd5db3f52f82aa79c fixes the issue for me.
