GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 753866
Nautilus starts self scrolling on thumbnail generation
Last modified: 2017-08-23 20:49:36 UTC
Good day to you all. So i had several hundred gigabyte deleted and recovered them with testdisk. Now when i go into the folder with ~19000 png files nautilus starts generating thumbnails. Everything works fine. It works surprisingly well. No UI lockup or scrolling hang. Except for: When you scroll down or jump further down nautilus starts scrolling up automatically. And there is no way to stop this. This also hinders the thumbnail generation for the files that are in view because the "viewport" always changes. Here two videos: https://imgrush.com/7bdde1cf3b90 My version of nautilus is 3.14 (Debian Stable) but i guess this also affects newer versions. But I dont have the means to test it on newer version.
Thanks for the bug report. I'm sorry for asking this 2 years after the report, but the link to the two videos seems to be broken. Are all files present from the start, or do files keep showing up out of nowhere while thumbnails are loading? [Might be bug 524363]
No problem. Great to hear back. I re-uploaded the videos: https://vid.me/mw5ey https://vid.me/yvgZg No files were changes when the bug was observed. As far as i can see the file list is already complete, just the thumbnails are not all available. The files are on a HDD connected via USB3. You can easily recreated the problem by cutting a video into its frames to create some hundreds or even thousands of images. ffmpeg -i "%1" frames/out-%03d.jpg
Thank you for reuploading the videos and for the quick reply. I see. I thought it was bug 524363, but it is bug 143817 after all. It's an old bug and unlikely to be fixed with current icon view code. Fortunately, there is a new experimental icon view which is not affected by this bug because it enforces the same size for all thumbnails. However, this is not ready to replace the current icon view yet. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 143817 ***
Great to see some love for these old unanswered reports. Thanks for that. The new icon view can't come fast enough. :)
