GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 750060
Nvidia Prime is not working with Gnome 3.16
Last modified: 2016-04-30 19:58:19 UTC
I've got an ASUS laptop with Nvidia Optimus (G820M nvidia card hybrid with Intel Haswell). If I install Ubuntu Gnome 15.04 (with Gnome 3.14.4) and I install also nvidia-346 nvidia-prime nvidia-settings, everything is working fine. Ubuntu is able to activate my nvidia card and I can use nvidia-settings to alternate between nvidia and intel mode. But If I upgrade Gnome 3.16, my system can't work with nvidia mode. It starts up ok but when it has to show the desktop, nothing happens. I have to press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to can type "sudo prime-select intel" and "sudo reboot". In intel mode everything works. I tried to install bumblebee (that freezes my system), xorg-edgers drivers and so on but nothing works. I had tried Kubuntu 15.04 with Plasma 5 and this issue was there too. The only way I could have Kubuntu working was checking autologin in my user and in the advanced settings of the SDDM login screen. I've tried to do the same but in Gnome I only have the autologin in my user. I don't know if it could be login screen related. Hope you could find a solution cause I like Gnome 3.16 a lot. Thanks in advance (and if you need further information, please let me know)
