GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 749812
Option to Prevent Autostart On Gnome Boot
Last modified: 2015-05-26 20:40:01 UTC
hello on gnome ubuntu, geary launches automatically on boot. how can i prevent this? when i launch gnome startup app, geary is not listed there. i do not see any option in geary preferences to prevent this. request: please add geary to gnome startup app, OR option to disable autostart on boot to geary options. thx!
Unselect "Always watch for new mail" in the Preferences dialog.
will try it! suggestion: change "Always watch for new mail" in the Preferences dialog to "Automatically start geary on operating-system startup." thx!

What do they mean?"
Bike-shedding the preferences text can be done over in bug #742244. Also see bug #749925. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 742244 ***
ok, thx, i will post text prefs over in bug #742244. But that bug number has a strikethrough, indicating it's "resolved/fixed". Why are you advising me to post my suggestions in an inactive page? Does the development team take time to review 'resolved/fixed' pages? Won't anything posted there just get ignored? comment: my understanding of "bike-shedding" is that it refers to trivial issues. I realize programmers sometimes consider user-experience to be "fluff" or not important. But it seems like geary was designed with great attention given to delivering a quality user-experience. i suggest that providing users with correct and accurate information is essential to a quality user-experience. calling it 'bike-shedding' suggests the geary team does not care about user-experience. thx
ok, disregard my previous comments. i apologize for suggesting the team does not care-- obviously they care a lot, and thanks! I have read that other post and i see why you marked this a duplicate. i assume that by posting over there, that is the appropriate way to re-open that issue? thx
No problem. My "bike-shedding" comment was a bit flip. I meant it as a comment on our previous discussion of that bug, but it obviously didn't come out that way. Getting feedback from actual users, not developers who already know the code, is crucial for these issues, and I appreciate you taking the time to let us know about these things. I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally watch changes to all bugs, not just open ones. Commenting on closed bugs is perfectly fine.
