GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 748837
Dialogs (shutdown, alt+f2, pkexec) sometimes have a solid and sometimes transparent background
Last modified: 2015-05-04 13:46:45 UTC
This happens quite randomly. Sometimes you have a nice dim effect under the dialog, and sometimes a plain black background, which doesn't look really nice. I tried looking as well as I could, but I couldn't find this reported anywhere, which kind of surprises me, since it's quite an old bug. Arch Linux, fully updated, GNOME 3.16.1. Thanks.
Do you see the solid black background in any specific use case? I usually only see it as black when I have set animations to disabled under: gnome-tweak-tool>Appearance>Enable animations>Off Perhaps it is being toggled to off for some reason. Can you check that when this occurs that switch is still in the On position?
Thanks for taking the time to report this. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 728659 ***
l300lvl: no, toggling animations on/off doesn't do anything. I also opened the tweak tool, looked into appearance, checked if animations were on, tried to logout and experienced the bug, cancelled the dialog, and animations were still on. I'm going to post further details into https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=728659 though.
Juraj Fiala: I should have also mentioned that setting doesn't take affect until a shell restart Alt F2 > r > return
Ah yes, disabling animations disables transparent background now.
