I'm using gedit 3.14.0-3 and GNOME 3.14 on Debian jessie.

When I choose the go to line option, gedit kills the X11 selection buffer (replacing it with "1"), preventing me from using middle-click to paste the line number I had just selected. gedit should not touch the X11 selection buffer except through user-driven selection events.

Yes, I agree. But it's a general GTK+ problem.
