Description Rick 2014-08-29 10:54:02 UTC
hi,

I really, really, really liked the zoom feature on the thumbnails in the overview. It was really useful to me - and maybe/hopefully other people too...

Could you please, please bring it back - at least put a switch in config somewhere if you don't want it to be the default behavior...

I often work with lots of documents and images open and the overview and zoom were extremely useful.

The code must still be lying around somewhere... of course, the file (gnome-shell.js?) has probably changed a lot since, but still... I really miss that...

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Not in its previous form, no.

Quoting from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686639#c15:
"If there's a real demand for zooming after 3.8,
we can come up with a saner design than the current behaviour."

This is not the first request, so maybe we should put this on the 3.16 list?
Comment 2 Rick 2014-08-29 12:10:27 UTC
3.16!?!?!?!? :-(

I recall a discussion about needing to limit zoom factor and all... anyway,
I found the diff from when the feature was removed, could I try to patch it back in locally, or has too much changed around it?...

That might make it easier to wait for 3.16, but yes, please put it on the closest list possible.

3.14 will be released in a bit over three weeks, so a feature we don't even have a design for yet will clearly have to wait until the next cycle.
Comment 4 Rick 2014-11-28 13:15:04 UTC
SO, is this in the works for 3.16?
Comment 5 Florian Müllner 2014-11-28 13:18:35 UTC
No. There's neither design nor code, nor anyone to my knowledge working on either.
Comment 6 Rick 2014-11-29 20:25:02 UTC
:-(
Can it be put on the list at least?
Is there a way to contribute design ideas if not code (not something I'm good at...)?
I really miss that feature...

FWIW, I also miss this. I have a 15" laptop screen with the resolution of 1920x1080.

When I have many browser windows open, it gets really hard to see which is which without the ability to "zoom-in" the windows.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
