Description Pamela Strucker 2014-07-02 00:49:00 UTC
I have 3 Google accounts which I have added to system in GOA. After that Evolution saw them, their names were "xxx@gmail.com", where xxx is my username.

Then I tried to change their settings, like directories, frequency of fetching emails etc. After changing *anything* name of account changes to "unnamed" (Polish: "bez nazwy").
It happens with all three accounts. I tried to remove and add them again (in GOA). I tried to find out which setting is causing name change, but I couldn't.

I'm using Debian Jessie. Evolution version: 3.12.1-1.

Maybe this bug is more related to GOA, because this situation started after some problems with it (adding account didn't work, something with gnome-keyring).

Thanks for a bug report. I tried to reproduce it and it behaves the same for me as for you, the account name is changed into Unnamed.
Comment 2 Milan Crha 2014-09-19 14:35:42 UTC
This is odd, I saw the issue, but once I begun to play with the code I was not able reproduce the issue anymore. My changes involved restart of a GOA daemon, running a newer version.

Thus I think you can be right here. I was looking into .source files at
   ~/.config/evolution/sources/
related to the GOA-based GMail account and there was files with DisplayName=Unnamed
key in the [Data Source] section of the file (at the very top of the file for me). It seems to me that evolution-data-server failed to recognize certain mail information in the .source files which prevented it from correct DisplayName change, though that's only a guess.

As I said, it begun to work properly for me.

Hello,
I forgot about this bug, since I'm not using Evolution right now. When I saw info about merging bugs I decided to check if bug is still there.
I've removed all accounts in GOA and I've added one again. Bug still exists...

Evolution version is 3.12.7-1, evolution-data-server - 3.12.7.1-2.
GOA version is 3.14.1-1.

If I can help somehow, please tell me what to do.

Best regards,
Pamela Strucker

Bug #751005 comment #1 contains steps how to reproduce this.
Comment 6 Milan Crha 2015-06-18 15:53:41 UTC
Hmm, and I'm not able to reproduce this again. Maybe it's after changes from bug #751005, or even with a commit 3738cdc. I'll keep this opened, just in case someone will be able to reproduce this more reliably than I can.

I'm getting this with Evolution 3.16.3 on Fedora 22, using KDE with GOA accessed via gnome-control-center. In fact my complaint is not only that the original name was lost, but that even before being lost the original name couldn't be changed to my preference. It was just set to the account's email address without asking.

It's taken from the GOA settings. I was told there's a plan to allow users "rename accounts", but I cannot find the bug right now.

See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=752114 for a workaround.

Hi, I'm getting this in Evolution 3.16.3 as well.
Comment 12 Milan Crha 2015-11-03 06:24:11 UTC
It's sort of known with 3.16.x. The 3.18.x contains some related fixes, which will address this too. It'll be good to test with 3.18.x.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
