When choosing "Use colors from system theme" (or a similar new option), the highlight fg/bg colors could also be set. This way highlight colors would be consistent with all the other Gnome apps.

Oops, wait a sec. In xterm the highlight color influences not only the mouse highlight, but also overrides reverse video (SGR 7). This may be a VTE bug/misfeature. And if we adjust to xterm then this feature request no longer makes sense.
