The Starred folder in the sidebar will show you all starred messages no matter
what label or folder they're in. However, I think what you're interested in is
to only show the unread messages in the **current** folder, which is more akin
to filtering. Am I correct, or do you want an Unread folder that shows all
unread messages in all folders?

My _current folder_ is usually "All Mail", so whatever I answer the result
won't change, at least for me. :-)

However, more generally, I think that a filter that acts just on the current
folder would be better.

An unread filter of the current folder is EXACTLY what I need. I don't always have time to read all my emails and end up with days of read and unread messages, mostly junk, so an unread filter would bring them forward and I would be able to read or delete as necessary.

Since https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726661 has been merged, this issue might be easier to solve. What is the current status of this issue?
Comment 4 Michael Gratton 2016-09-14 05:06:25 UTC
Bug 726661 does get us half way there, but Bug 714496 is the other missing piece needed - a patch implementing that will also solve this, for search at least.

Note also that Geary unfortunately has separate code paths for search vs listing conversations in a folder, so some more work is required for a more traditional filtering UI. That is more generally covered by earlier Bug 713872, so I'm going to mark this a duplicate of that.
