Description Milan Crha 2012-05-15 07:10:04 UTC
I noticed couple times that mails are not always marked as seen automatically, even I have evolution set to do so. I'm not sure of the pattern, or what it does, but it seems it has something to do with a fact that message is not downloaded locally yet (my IMAP account), and it is text/html message (I'm able to reproduce it with message from Tyler). I see "Receiving message", then "Parsing message", then the message is shown, but a second later it is not marked as seen. If I move away from the message and back to it, then it's shown almost instantly, and a second later it is also marked as seen.

Similar with meeting invites. (To avoid confusion, it's an IMAP account, not IMAP+.)
Comment 2 Dan Vrátil 2012-07-18 08:46:49 UTC
Are you still able to reproduce it? I tried with various messages and mark-as-read delay, but I could not reproduce the described behavior.
Comment 3 Milan Crha 2012-07-18 09:30:07 UTC
I think it's a coincidence of shorter mark-seen interval and longer message download or parsing, or something like that. I'll try to watch this and find a pattern.
Comment 4 Milan Crha 2012-07-18 20:04:17 UTC
I tried to watch on this during my usual walk-through mails, but it didn't show up, thus I'm closing this for now.

OK, it's still there. My IMAP account, doing update of all folders, while I read messages in already done folder. I see "Retrieving message 'xxx'" for quite long time, I guess about 30 seconds or more, then the queue of piled operations on the IMAP account allows finish of message download and finally shows it in message preview panel. The message is left unread. My guess is that the message-seen timer is installed too early, or cancelled/not used for some corner cases, but I didn't check code.
Comment 6 Fabien Tassin 2012-08-08 17:24:47 UTC
I'm also seeing a lot of messages staying unread, also using an IMAP account.
But I'm not seeing your sticking "Retrieving message 'xxx'" in the status bar, so i'm not sure it's the same bug..

It seems that in my case, the emails showing this symptoms are all HTML emails, without attachment bar. And i'm also seeing the EAttachmentBar gtk warning (for those emails), as reported there: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=680724#c1 and #c4

Also seeing this, I thought first that the problem was only with email with large attachments, but I have seen it on smaller text only email recently as well.

I have not found a way to reproduce this reliably, but it happens several times a day for me.

Running evolution 3.6.2 under Ubuntu 12.10, this was not present when running Ubuntu 12.04, not sure exactly what evolution version I was running but packages.ubuntu.com says 3.2.3-0ubuntu6 is in 12.04.
