This requires the application to use GtkApplication (bug 664970)

Patch for this (and another) bug.

This patch replaces the old menu bar with the new GMenu. It also uses GtkApplication. The design of the menu is still under consideration.

Could you please rebase this against the latest branch? This should also be split into separate patches for each change.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the patch. Will you be able to update it as Robert requested? And if the other bug is still an issue as well, it'd be great to have that as a separate patch.
