GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 662789
Can't create account with None receiving server type
Last modified: 2012-01-02 18:28:14 UTC
Created attachment 200050 [details] not working evolution-3.2.0-1.fc16.x86_64 evolution-data-server-3.2.0-1.fc16.x86_64 I cannot create an account for myself in Evolution, using hadess@hadess.net as the email address. How do I complete the wizard? Hopefully fixed in evolution 3.2.1
I think I've seen this before - It was awefully slow, but worked after waiting for quite a few seconds.
I have the feeling this is due to this code trying to poke servers which are firewalled by the ISP that I used at the time (a mobile ISP that blocks a lot of ports, to avoid spammers using their 3G network). I waited a good 5 minutes before filing this bug FWIW.
Still present: evolution-3.2.2-1.fc16.x86_64 evolution-data-server-3.2.2-1.fc16.x86_64
Created attachment 202469 [details] [review] evo patch for evolution; I can reproduce this only when running 3.2.x and only when configuring account with "None" receiving option, which is preselected here. The 3.3.x has this done differently and works as expected.
Workaround is to change server type from SMTP to sendmail and back, which will show options afterwards. Created commit aebff18 in evo gnome-3-2 (3.2.3+)
I just noticed that the "receiving email" page is completely skipped (flickers through very quickly) when I clicked on the "next" button in the "identity" page. Going back shows the "none" server type is selected. 1. launch evolution from a new account 2. Welcome page -> continue 3. Restore from backup -> continue 4. Required information ("Bastien Nocera" is already filled in as a name, enter hadess@hadess.net as the e-mail address) -> continue 5. "receiving e-mail" flickers 6. empty "sending e-mail" page as per screenshot This only seems to happen if I'm quick at typing my address in 4. If I wait for 20 seconds after filling in my address, "receiving e-mail" seems to show up.
I cannot reproduce this, either I'm "too slow" or the above change influences this, though I doubt it a bit. I just typed the email address and clicked the Continue button with a mouse.
