The new progress indicator (Loading...) at the top right works better than the old one, but it is still barely noticable. I think you should complement it by setting the mouse cursor to GDK_WATCH when the document is pointed at, since that is the common way to propagate a working state. Then it becomes more obvious to the user why the page is blank at that moment.
