After updating all to the actual 11.4 factory-tested with kernel linux 2.6.37-rc5-12-desktop and GNOME 2.32.1:
Now the applet for the GNOME networkmanager is not shown but seems to run (and connect both to LAN and wireless LAN)

~> nm-applet
An instance of nm-applet is already running.

** (nm-applet:9305): WARNING **: <WARN>  constructor(): Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so . Thanks in advance!
Comment 3 pistazienfresser 2010-12-17 14:08:45 UTC
Sorry for the delay.

I had read http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces/Details and had installed just all the debug-info packages (for openSUSE factory-tested) but descriptions seemed to appeal directly only to programs that crash or could forced to crash.

And I still do not really now how to start gdb and log in GNOME after that (if that is a/the way to get the information).

Nowadays (openSUSE factory-tested nearly equal to openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 5) the network manager, the GNOME applet for that, the GNOME panel and updating while those are running - all of those seems to work.

I cannot reproduce any of those fail functions any more (hopefully that is mostly something good).

panel/panel applications crash

The desktop immediately after logging in GNOME (but error windows separated manually)

Maybe connected to:

Bug 633043 - Selecting Main Menu applet causes various panel applets to crash at login
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=633043
(as openSUSE uses the Main Menu - now I have "GNOME Main Menu 0.9.15")
