Description Marc-Andre Lureau 2010-06-10 08:37:52 UTC
In bug 614212, the patch requires addition of new symbolic icons that are currently missing:

+ "audio-input-microphone-muted-symbolic",
+ "audio-input-microphone-low-symbolic",
+ "audio-input-microphone-medium-symbolic",
+ "audio-input-microphone-high-symbolic",

It seems only audio-input-microphone-symbolic is available.

thanks

I am actually not convinced these belong to a base theme. Currently they aren't in the gnome-icon-theme and the naming spec either. The speaker volume levels have been added just because of the constant indicator on the panel. You don't have that with the microphone.

I am not familiar with the new volume applet, but the only place I see these is the sound preferences applet where they don't seem to be very helpful. The sound wave metaphor seems to indicate the inverse, actually. I don't need to shout more when I inrease the mic sensitivity.

Can you please provide more background on the intended use to justify additon to the name spec and mandate the inclusion in all themes?

As discussed on IRC those icons should be added to gnome-media itself.

I have added the symbolic icons in gnome-media master. Please install them into the app-specific data dir, as described in http://live.gnome.org/ThemableAppSpecificIcons. Hopefully nothing changes wrt recoloring in gtk3.

I will also update the tango-styled icons already in there to be in sync and avoid the possible inverse interpretation of the waves.

add symbolic icons for the microphone levels. Addresses bug #621175.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.

I updated the tango styled icons as well, hopefully not breaking the build.
