GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 620856
Breadcrumb widget
Last modified: 2011-04-06 18:39:06 UTC
Nautilus needs a breadcrumb widget. This is a big to-do item in our UI improvement effort. Garrett Le Sage's mockups give a good idea of where we're going with this: http://linuxart.com/log/archives/2009/07/24/nautilus-streamlined/ I can provide plenty of design spec info if required.
nautilus has a pathbar already.
(In reply to comment #1) > nautilus has a pathbar already. We need to improve the visual appearance of the pathbar: partly because it needs to look nicer, and partly because we need to communicate the nested nature of a directory structure.
We also have some functional requirements that aren't possible with the current pathbar implementation - see bug 620870.
The idea being floated at the moment is to have a common breadcrumb widget in gtk so that it can be used by both nautilus and the new control center. A design specification is being developed here: http://live.gnome.org/Design/Breadcrumb
If you want it to end up in gtk, it should better be suitable for the file chooser as well. Not listing the file chooser as prior art in the wiki page could be considered somewhat rude :-)
Allan: have you seen this mockup/spec? http://danrabbit.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2kqh7n

Is someone working on this to be included in GTK+3 ?
