GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 619616
Path bar: hide directories below /home/user and /media
Last modified: 2012-04-29 21:45:20 UTC
Displaying the file path below /home/user is both superfluous and potentially confusing. /media should also be hidden when browsing a mounted device The full path should only be displayed when browsing below /home/user or when a device has been accessed through /media.
I don't quite understand this. We already hide this in the pathbar when its not explicitly expanded by the user.
Created attachment 161998 [details] Mockup of proposed path bar changes Apologies, I should have been clearer. Right now, /home and /media are hidden by scrolling the pathbar off to the left. The proposal here is to do away with using that scrolling mechanism to hide those directories. The attached mockup demonstrates what that would look like.
Changing component as part of ongoing bug reorganisation work.
I think we should try to do this for 3.2
This is better in 3.1.4 - it works as proposed except for when the path bar becomes longer than the screen width (see bug 620870). Going back, the toolbar does not start with the user's Home folder anymore but has two additional higher levels (/ and /home).
I now pushed a patch set that implements the changes proposed in this report to git master.
