GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590639
Add an option to render "video only" or "audio only"
Last modified: 2012-04-07 18:48:03 UTC
Sometimes i import an audio/video file and i would like to render only the audio part (or the video part), to work on it with another software for instance PiTiVi could have following render options : audio = no audio video = no video
Bug 584135 may be related (but not duplicate)
PiTiVi will be include within next Ubuntu which is great and we must be sure that people won't be frustrated using it (=that pitivi has all basic expected functionalities) When using GNOME, Totem can be used for watching movies but also for listening music : listening music doesn't require extra work nor extra buttons in the GUI, it's almost free. It's very convenient from the user point of view since he doesn't have to learn another GUI to listen music if he wants to. If i make use of PiTiVi for editing video, i don't want to have to learn another editor to make basic audio edition (trimming). I expect to be able to load my audio file into PiTiVi, to trim and to export to another audio file. Or to be able to use PiTiVi to transcode an audio file. I believe (but i'm only a user) that it can be done with actual PiTiVi without a lot of extra developper work and it would be a shame that PiTiVi doesn't allow user to work on audio since it could be done without changing the GUI, using existing tools. Please add the ability to render video only or audio only Other use case : i can shot movies with my camera and sometimes the sound is useless : i'd like to be able to export a video file without the audio part to save space (i.e. to upload on the Web) maybe related bugs (but not duplicates) : Bug 584137, Bug 584135, Bug 432723

antistress, I don't see why Bug #584135 should be considered a separate issue... it's formulated slightly differently, but the intent is the same, and the use case are the same, as far as I can tell. His bug is about a "no audio" feature not working, and this bug seems to be about having an explicit "don't render audio" option. To some extent this could be a desireable feature as it might require less processing power if the user is able to render audio-only or video-only.
Jean-François Fortin Tam : you are right (i wasn't sure)
After more discussion on IRC etc., we'll consider this a separate issue from bug #584135, after all. Here we have a feature request, but over there it's an ugly "bug".
any chance to get this feature within the next release ?
I'd think no, not if we want to release soon to make it into the ubuntu 10.04 deadlines.
A "no audio" option would be very useful for screencasts/demos without sound.
