GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 588041
support xrandr 1.3 'primary output'
Last modified: 2010-12-07 16:09:23 UTC
Xrandr adds a concept of 'primary output' which is supposed to be the monitor on which the desktop displays its main panels/menus. The glade file for the display capplet already has an 'Include panel' checkbox, which is basically about the same concept. The attached patch makes that checkbox visible, and uses new gnome-desktop api introduced in bug 588040 to implement it.
There's no patch attached.
I assume this is the missing piece in the jigsaw that has not been committed to allow for easily moving the panel between screens? There appear to be no attached diffs.

Mattias: Do you still have a patch for this, since there doesn't appear to be one attached here?

The dialog has been reworked by Federico (http://www.gnome.org/~federico/news-2010-02.html#12). But there is no support for the primary screen yet. Some pointer which might help to find the supposed to be attached patch: The downstream bugreport for it at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=510145 does not have anything attached either. In addition the bug is referenced to from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=562944#c27 ... How this should look like is shown in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=562944#c5

This was fixed in GNOME 3. Now you can change the primary output by dragging the menu bar from output to output.
