GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 566479
Use a proper square grid for icon placement on desktop and in windows
Last modified: 2012-09-19 19:25:51 UTC
Nautilus windows currently does not use a square grid for placing icons, for example when using "Clean up by name" or other sorting mechanisms. The desktop is even worse since it doesn't even use a rectangular grid. Both windows and the desktop should use an even square grid to tidy things up. Other information:

As can be seen on the attached screenshots, windows and desktop use a variety of grid sizes in combination, which gives the supposedly lined up icons an untidy impression instead.
When using a common vertical size for all rows, you end up with lots of white space in case there are only a few overlong item names.
