Description michael 2008-10-26 00:13:29 UTC
Please describe the problem:
using gnumeric 1.9.1 - try to open an old WKS file (2004) - 1 of 2 things happens - 1-get a little garbage in cell a1 - thats all - 2-same thing but i specify wks type file in advanced - now i also get a box that pops up and says 'error while reading lotus workbook'.

Steps to reproduce:
1. see above
2.
3.

Actual results:
see above

Expected results:
I would expect the file to open up!!!!!!! your documentation specifically says that gnumeric can handle this situation.

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
your step process to get here is too complicated

Please explain.

This is not a blocker.
Comment 2 Andreas J. Guelzow 2008-10-27 18:19:17 UTC
Can you provide the wks sample file that can't be opened? (I don't see any potential for data loss here, so the severity should be "normal".)
Comment 3 Morten Welinder 2008-10-27 18:26:57 UTC
Please attach a sample file and, if possible, the same file in xls format
so we can see what ought to happen.
Comment 4 Andreas J. Guelzow 2008-10-27 18:29:43 UTC
Note that a wks file as we understand it is a spreadsheet file created by Lotus
1-2-3.

Microsoft Works also uses the wks _extension_ (but does not create lotus 1-2-3
files).

Comment 6 Andreas J. Guelzow 2008-10-27 20:54:55 UTC
Gnumeric does not read MSWorks files. The extension .wks is usually used for Lotus 1-2-3 files.

Could you please tell me where our documentation says that it handles MSWorks files?
