GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 554538
Mobile broadband does not reconnect
Last modified: 2014-04-23 18:00:38 UTC
Please describe the problem: When "connect automatically" is enabled NM performs an automatic attempt only after start-up. Since mobile broadband can be used while traveling a lost connection is not a rare event. And often is a pain to have to reconnect manually all the times. Steps to reproduce: 1. Enable "Automatically connect" in "mobile broadband->edit" 2. Reboot 3. Plug usb modem in 4. Provoke a lost connection (for example, cover the modem with a metallic box) 5. Remove the box Actual results: After the modem is plugged in NM connects automatically. After lost connection NM does not attempt a new connection Expected results: As long as the network is available NM should try to reconnect automatically Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Yeah, we need to make reconnect work for mobile broadband.
What are the missing parts to have this implemented?
Here is a script that can be used as a workaround: http://best-ubuntu-notebook.blogspot.com/2010/12/network-manager-auto-reconnect-solved.html Or combined with parts from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cnetworkmanager/+bug/875075/comments/2 to avoid killing NM for each reconnect.

Changing the summary to distinguish it better from bug 667488.
Maybe also limit the number of retries, bug #688448.
NM bugzilla reorganization... sorry for the bug spam.
Since bug 667488 explicitly mentions lost connection, couldn't we mark this a duplicate?
will be fixed by the branch in 728044 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 728044 ***
