GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 513639
Show a pane with matches from the translation memory.
Last modified: 2008-09-18 11:19:27 UTC
I think it would be extremely useful to have a pane (like the "Dictionaries" and the "Open-trans" ones) showing results from the translation memory. That is, when we have a string and there is a similar string in the TM, the pane can show that match (that similar string), along with the percentage of similarity and, if possible, the differences between both strings. In addition, we should be able to "apply" (copy) automatically, or by using a shortcut, the found string to the string we are actually translating. This feature is present in many translation tools, and I think it would really improve the efficiency of the translation process with gtranslator. I don't know if I explained it well, I hope you get the idea of all this....
Yeah, i already thought in this but need to implement the translation memory stuff first. Thanks for you bug report. If you have any other feature in mind please don't hesitate in report it.
Translation memory hasn't been implemented yet. Of course, it would be necessary to show the similar strings so that translators can select them.I'm not sure about how or where because the current main window it's only a proposal by Ignacio Casal. It hasn't been approved. In fact, I don't like especially. I'm really appreciate this comment, we need all feedback that we can get, but there is an open enhancement about translation memories (#462828) so this comment would be better there.
What do you mean with where? You can place the panels where you want. Just drag and drop in the place you want.
this bug should depend on bug #462828 and I agree with Pablo, I don't like that much the actual interface, it wastes practically the whole screen I will try to make a mockup :)
So how do you want the layout of the window. I mean is it possible have all that panes without fill all the window?
Actually, I do like the current proposal... I find it complete and useful. Besides, the panes can be placed wherever we want, so it's quite convenient...
Hm, I just downloaded the new version of gtranslator. To be honest, I prefer the side pane. It's MUCH more usable than having several floating panes. IMHO.
But you can use the floating panel like the old side pane.
I mean, i already have to add a preferences option to choose how you want to see the panels. Only icon, Only text, both... But i think you can use this floating panels like the old panel. If you have a bit we are in GimpNet -> Channel -> "gtranslator" Maybe you and Gil Forcada prefer talk directly about this kind of things.

Hi, the translation memory issue could be done in two ways: - doing automatic translation as Poedit does - searching matches from a translation memory of the current string on a side panel for the translator could see suggestions I have done several screenshots about all the TM stuff in Poedit. Sorry for this.
This feature is implemented in the gtranslator git branch of nacho and it works fairly well. Scanning large source code folder trees in order to learn the TM may take a long time. We should probably run it in the background if there are more than, say, 30 folders to scan.

This is working in the trunk version in the Gnome Subversion repository and it will be available in the next major release. Thank you for your bug report.
