GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 513176
Empathy should support formatted text
Last modified: 2018-05-22 13:07:23 UTC
Most IM protocols allow the user to specify the font, colour, and in some cases even the size and background colour of text that's sent. Empathy should: a) Allow the user to select a default font/colour for their outgoing messages b) Display incoming messages with the correct formatting
We first need an interface on telepathy Text channels for that.
The telepathy-spec bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15449
The solution is to use the Messages interface (http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/spec/org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Channel.Interface.Messages.html). This should be possible once the Adium branch is merged (#522069).

Does the adium branch merge have a schedule?
It needs review from an empathy developer. There is no plan atm, but hopefully "soon".
Thanks! I have another question: can custom emoticons be considered part of this bug, or should I open another issue?
Custom smileys is something different. I'm pretty sure there is already a bug open about that but I can't find it right now.
