Description chaos 2001-01-27 19:47:03 UTC
Package: gtk+
Version: 1.2.6

GtkText gets really slowly sometimes.
This is independent of Gtk Theme. It happens with:
* default theme
* pixmap theme
* ThinIce theme
And this is independent of Window manager too. I saw it happes with:
* Enlightenment DR 0.15, DR 0.16
* Window Maker
* IceWM
* KDE (KWM) 1.0, 1.1, 1.1.2, 2.0 (KRASH)
* Blackbox

It does not depend on CPU or memory. This happened to:
* 486 DX2 66MHz 12 MB
* Athlon 600MHz 512MB
* PII 300MHz 128 MB

This has happen to:
* gnotepad+
* Gedit
* GXedit
* and few apps I wrote.

It does not happen everytime.
However when it happens, every keystroke gets the CPU to 100%.
Making it unusuble.

IMHO I think it might be related to the way the apps use GtkText.
And the way GtkText handles the keystrokes.

I am using Conectiva Linux 4.0 (RH6.0 clone).
Glibc 2.1.1
libstdc++ 2.9.0
X => XFree86 3.3.5 (has happen since 3.3.2) SVGA Server

Good luck,

Raul Dias

Can you maybe get the app in a debugger, and try to hit ctrl-C a few
times during the slowness and see where in gtktext.c the program is
spending its time?

Hi thanks for the bug report.

I'm closing this bug because it has been open for too long with no
response. If you feel that this is still a problem feel free to
re-open this bug or open a new one, however I would encourage you to
