GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 365609
Ekiga cuts off beginning of echo test greeting
Last modified: 2007-03-24 05:53:00 UTC
Please describe the problem: When ekiga connects to an echo test service, the first few seconds of the greeting are not heard, even though other SIP clients play them back. According to Damien Sandras: "What happens (I think) is that Asterisk starts sending audio as soon as it has sent the 200 OK and before having received the ACK." See also http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.apps.gnomemeeting/13745 . Steps to reproduce: 1. connect to (any?) echo test service Actual results: Ekiga cuts off the first few seconds of the greeting. Expected results: Ekiga should also play the beginning of the greeting. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information:
Yes, I remember it was discussed on the mailing-list. Not sure whether it's an opal bug or asterisk not respecting the RFC (or worse, the RFC not specifying it explicitly).
This bug was due to the fact that a dial tone was played each time there is an outgoing call. I have now changed that and the dial tone is only played when receiving the 180 Ringing response from the remote endpoint. (Fixing part 1 of 345765 fixed it).
