Last modified: 2007-07-16 16:13:35 UTC
Version: 2.16.1 What were you doing when the application crashed? I was editing a javascript file on a web-server connected through ssh. I've created and selected the file using the new file-manager plugin. seems to be unique please install the gtk+ and gedit debugging packages Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!

Can't seem to reproduce it with the debug packages (or without them for that matter). I have a feeling its related to the syntax-coloring and a particular version of a particular bug. But since it crashed I lost those changes and i've been updating that document since. Perhaps some of the duplicate-reporters can shed more light on this?

Would like to install the debug package for gedit as per suggestion, but can't find it. How does one go about getting it on Ubuntu? http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/gnome/gedit Cheers JP

last dups contain information on how the crash was triggered please install the gtk+ and gedit debugging packages Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Simple recipe for Ubuntu Edgy: # apt-get install libgnomevfs2-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg libglib2.0-0-dbg and # echo "deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/ddebs edgy main universe" >>/etc/apt/sources/list # apt-get update # apt-get install gedit-dbgsym Hopefully, the crash can be reproduced once with a full stacktrace

I confirm the crash can be reproduced as explained by Paweł in bug #408355. The following warning is printed on the console: Gtk-ERROR **: file gtktextbtree.c: line 1903 (_gtk_text_btree_tag): assertion failed: ((toggled_on && seg->type == >k_text_toggle_off_type) || (!toggled_on && seg->type == >k_text_toggle_on_type)) aborting... I'm using gtk+ 2.10.6. To reproduce this crash follows these steps: 1. Run: $ gedit --encoding=ISO-8859-2 "http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=82623&action=view" 2. Ope the replace dialog and replace all occurrences of "<hr size="1">" with "" 3. Press "undo".

I cannot reproduce it anymore with gedit 2.18 and gtk+ 2.10.12 (from SVN). I suspect this crash is related to bug #357060 that pbor fixed in gtk+ 2.10.7
