GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 347852
Non-existent file association editor
Last modified: 2014-07-12 18:20:42 UTC
The Settings...Edit Mime Types... menu tries to launch gnome-file-types-properties, but that utility has been completely removed from the GNOME control center many versions ago. Looks like nautilus contains a similar functionality. I don't know how much public API it has for a mimetype associations editor, or if you'd have to import a lot of nautilus code to get something useful.
I can confirm this problem. The application was removed in GNOME 2.8. This bug is still valid in the 20061010 CVS branch of the 1.2.x branch.
I confirm this bug with GNOME Commander 1.2.6 (actually, 1.2.6-1 as found in Ubuntu 8.10). Similarly, nothing happens if you open Properties window for a file and press the "Opens with:" - "Change" button.
Confirm - GNOME Commander 1.2.7, Ubuntu 9.04. When you want to change association, nothing happens.
Still reproducible with the latest release "1.2.8.11"
Still reproducible with 1.4
Still reproducible with RHEL6 and GNOME Commander 1.2.8.8 : impossible to change default application for a given file type :(

To stop confusing GCMD users, the feature of editing default applications via MIME entries will be dropped in the upcoming release v1.4. The feature itself is on the TODO list...
