Description Sebastien Bacher 2006-05-10 11:13:56 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/43677

"In g-s-m, we should provide a useful default statistic for memory. I propose one of two options:

1. Writable Memory
With the latest upload of g-s-m, this gives the private and dirty RSS. That statistic is a good approximiation of actual memory usage.

2. Writable Memory + X Memory
This helps give more accurate stats for applications like firefox which make use of X memory.

Either one of these stats will help give users a fair evaluation of their memory usage."

2 sounds great. Give me (short) name for the column and i'll do it.
Comment 2 Benoît Dejean 2006-06-21 22:10:24 UTC
"Memory" is just fine i guess ...
Comment 3 Ben Maurer 2006-06-22 06:57:47 UTC
I'd just use "Memory". Can we have a tooltip? It'd be nice if we could give a technical definition there.
Comment 4 Benoît Dejean 2006-06-22 19:15:49 UTC
Done. No tooltip yet.
Comment 5 Benoît Dejean 2006-10-14 20:40:19 UTC
It would be easy to do tooltip in the preferences dialgo with libsexy.
Comment 6 Sebastien Bacher 2007-02-05 15:05:37 UTC
any new on that bug? tooltip have been dropped no?
Comment 7 Benoît Dejean 2007-02-05 15:32:35 UTC
libsexy is dead. the documentation should be updated.
Comment 8 Robert Roth 2011-11-17 20:23:04 UTC
We now have a Memory column. Is there anything that needs to be done to close this bug?
Comment 9 Robert Roth 2011-11-28 20:05:28 UTC
Based on last weeks silence, the age of the discussion from this bug and the fact that we right now have a Memory column for showing the user memory used by each application, I am marking this as FIXED. Please reopen if you do not agree, and mention how would you like to see this fixed.
