GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 338272
Bad formed ping command when given a broadcast ip
Last modified: 2006-04-14 17:04:07 UTC
Please describe the problem: When a broadcast ip is given to ping, it does not work. We can obviously attach this to the bad formed ping command, wich should be used with a '-b'. Should be easy to fix, no? :) Steps to reproduce: 1.go to nettool->ping 2.ip: 255.255.255.255 (i.e.) 3. nothing happens... if we launch from the console, we see the msg (lack of -b) Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
I wonder how does it works in Solaris.
In Solaris there is no need for an extra parameter, you can ping a broadcast addr directly, the same as bsd*. I wonder if the -b parameter in Linux environments is only for security reasons... Ok, working on a patch.. :p
In that case, it is only needed to add -b by default. It will work fine for any kind of address. I added the keyword gnome-love.
Created attachment 63469 [details] [review] Patch to ping broadcast addresses I hope this works :)
The patch works fine in Linux. Thank you!. I applied to both stable and HEAD branches.
