Description Ryan P Skadberg 2006-01-23 19:30:28 UTC
So, I have noticed this recently. If I get an e-mail from someone I want to add to my Contacts, I right click on the e-mail address and say Add to Addressbook. Then, if I go to use that address that was just added by doing an auto-complete in an e-mail, the address does not show up. This also happens when I search by name in the Contacts.

The e-mail address gets added as Other. If I switch it to Work, everything starts working again.

I do have other Contacts set up with Other e-mail addresses and they seem to work fine, so it seems to be something with how the current version of evolution is adding things to the address book which gets fixed when I change the field.

evolution 2.5.4
eds 1.5.4

Add to addressbook, adds the contacts to the default folder,
and not to the folder which is marked for autocompletion.
Please check, which folder you have marked as your defaut folder.
You can mark the floder you have selected for autocompletion,
as your default folder.

Also, now address book dialog, allows the user to select the
addressbook, where the contacts can be added.
Next version (2.5.6) will have it.

Ok, your answer has confused me.

How is the "default folder" that it will add addresses to set?

Secondly, it is adding the address to my Personal folder, which is definitely set in the autocompletion pane of my preferences.

As I said in the bug report, it did not work initially, but once I change the e-mail type from Other to Work, suddenly it started working. It sounds like it is not adding it correctly to the folder it is adding it to.

They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so here's 6000 words :)

I right click your e-mail address on the bug report and I see the first pictures and click ok.

Then, I got in to Contacts and search for your name (well, just sush) with the Name begins with and I get no results, as seen in picture 2.

Then, i switch the search to Any Field contains and I find you (picture 3)

Then, I open up the editor and it shows that your e-mail address has been set as Other (Picture 4)

I switch that to Work address and save. I then re-open and you see in Picture 5 that the address is switched.

Then, if I go back in to Contacts and switch back to Name begins with search, and put in sush, I now see your name.

So, the initial save is doing something wrong, but when I edit it with the contact editor and save it through there, it fixes the problem.

Attaching pictures now.

Comment 10 Devashish Sharma 2006-01-24 05:18:50 UTC
Works for me.
The address shows up both in Auto-Completion and search by name in contacts.
We have done quite some changes to Add To Addressbook Mechanism, so may be because of that it is working now.
So the issue has definitely been fixed in the latest version.
Closing this for now, please check with the latest version (2.5.6) which will be out soon and reopen if you face the issue again.
Comment 11 Sushma Rai 2006-01-24 05:41:51 UTC
Thanks for the detailed descriptions.
tested with 2.5.4, it is working fine for me.
Devashish, Poornima: can you please test this?

But I found one more issue while testing this.
While trying to add email entry from bugzilla mail (CC filed)
a "|" gets added at the beginning.
looks like gtkhtml issue, I am filing a bug on that.

Devashish, This is a major issue. Can we look at this?
Comment 16 Karsten Bräckelmann 2006-04-19 22:51:45 UTC
Yes, this is a major issue. Sushma, you at least could have inherited the priority, which I explicitely set, when duplicating my bug. Adjusting.

For some *detailed* observations and how to likely fix this, please see my bug 337087.

This still is an issue in 2.6.x, adjusting Version. We missed the Target Milestone long ago, adjusting too. This is an issue with non-default default Address Books. Adjusting Summary. See my bug for an explanation about "non-default default".

Also, confirming. Obviously, due to duplicates, "me too" comments and detailed instructions how to reproduce.
