Description Claudio Saavedra 2005-12-22 12:43:37 UTC
I removed the search widget from the toolbar by dragging it into toolbar editor. It dissapeared, and now I can't set it back. :-)

Thanks for your bug report. Currently, 'Search the Web' is not a default toolbar item, but maybe it should be.

You can re-add the field to the toolbar by opening the bookmarks editor, finding the 'Search the Web' smart bookmark, and dragging it onto the toolbar.

How does this bug relate to bug 169542?

An alernative is to drag the Quick Bookmark item (we need to rename that btw, I suggest we use "Bookmark" and replace the existing "Bookmark" with "Add Bookmark") from the toolbar editor to your toolbar where you'll be prompted to select which bookmark you want to use.

Perhaps the fact that it looks like a search widget (rather than a "bookmark") is confusing? We've been considering separating the concepts of bookmarks and searches, and this particular bug report might be a good rationale for that.
Comment 3 Claudio Saavedra 2005-12-24 16:03:38 UTC
Hi,

I could restore it (and add a few more searches) after chpe told me how to do it in IRC. Now I understand the way to do it, but I think that would be a little confusing for users.

For example, I wanted to add a "GNOME Bug" search, and realized that first I need a bookmark for it. But I don't actually need a bookmark for bug numbers, so I would suggest to separate the bookmark and search concepts.

(btw, really nice work guys, I love this bookmark-search item :-)

This bug makes me think that maybe having a widget in the toolbar editor for each smart bookmark would be a good idea. Maybe not :p.
Comment 5 Peter Harvey 2006-09-11 15:24:36 UTC
There was an idea once to have multiple panes. One of those panes would allow keyboard-based editing (similar to all the old style toolbar editing dialogs). But it could be extended to have a "Regular" pane and a "Bookmark" pane. Would require quite a bit of work to get it right though.

Is this still relevant with in the 3.0 version?, I think is not valid.
Comment 7 Claudio Saavedra 2011-08-24 10:06:05 UTC
Yeah, whatever.
