GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 316655
no ability to full screen preview individual screensavers
Last modified: 2009-03-31 03:15:53 UTC
The ability to preview fullscreen any screensaver like Xscreensaver currently provides. Other information: using gnome-screensaver version 0.0.13 using Ubuntu Breezy 9/17/05 i386 iso install
There are no plans to implement this feature. I don't think this feature solves any real problems.
I think that a preview is needed because some screen savers, mainly the ones in OpenGL, don't run as smooth in full screen as in the preview pane. The performances on the preview pane can be misleading. Furthermore, the preview pane is not an indicator on how the screen saver will perform at full screen.
> I don't think this feature solves any real problems. It solves the problem of previewing the screensaver fullscreen, to see how it looks and more importantly, if it works. It's also an expected feature, simple as that.
Just adding a "me too" voice - the lack of a preview button is a large omission in my opinion. Apart from the performance argument stated above by Emmanuel, it's not unreasonable IMO for a user to want to quickly preview what a screensaver will look like fullscreen. GL text-based ones are another example - it's very hard to get an impression what it will look like from a small preview window. I can't remember ever using a screensaver without a preview button, so I would also agree with Kristoffer in that this is an expected feature. Thanks for your time, Sham.
It sounds like more than one user out there is requesting this and so definately worth implementing it.
This bug has been fixed since a patch was submited and after some modifications the code implementing this feature was added to the main trunk of CVS. The next release of GNOME should include this feature. See bug 329246 for more details.
Could this be dup'ed against bug #329246 rather than being left WONTFIX?
