GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 251261
Wishlist: Keystroke For Empty Trash
Last modified: 2013-09-13 00:51:17 UTC
Please, how about a keystroke for "Empty Trash" so that you can do it with the keyboard. Currently that function has no shortcut. Control-DELETE, Alt-DELETE, or Shift-DELETE?
ctrl-e
Am I misunderstanding something? Otherwise this is not a bug... (Please reopen if needed)
I DID misunderstand. Clarified via e-mail. Reopening.
Ctrl-E only empties the trash for the current folder-- Empty trash would expunge all folders. Sounds like if Ctrl-E is expunge, Ctrl-Shift-E should be "expunge all" (on the theory that "shift" means "do it more").
dobey can you finalise a decision here this is a simple yes/no
Control-Shift-foo typically means doing the opposite of Control-foo. Control-Alt-E might be acceptable. What about just getting rid of "Expunge" and just always doing "Empty Trash" instead? Is there a noticeable performance hit if we do that?
I would think that one would use Empty-Trash far more than Expunge. I would vote for this change. That keeps users out of the UI and pulldowns to empty their trash and lowers the chance they will click on something else.
adding dependency
control+shift+e is "new meeting" currently.
assigning dobey's evo UI bugs to srag as he is the UI guy now. :-)
Another suggestion: <control><shift>Delete. It's taken from the OSX finder behaviour: Delete for "move to trash", C-S-Delete to empty trash. Actually I thought this bug was for nautilus, but anyway the chosen keystroke sould be the same for both apps.
I'd like to point out the inconsistency with ctrl+e, and the hig guideline on keyboard shortcuts conflicting with the emacs shortcuts.
Closing....old issue.
