GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 210734
alphabet list should use state-toggling buttons
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:02:48 UTC
The A-Z buttons along the right edge of the address card view filter down the set of displayed contacts to only those beginning with the selected letter. However, it is not always obvious that this filtering is in effect. Furthermore, it is unclear how to remove the filtering so that all contacts are once again displayed. I eventually discovered that Search -> Clear would reset the filter, but this was extremely non-obvious, since the state of the filter is not itself represented in the search bar. I propose a subtle change to the alphabet list that should fix both problems. The buttons in this list should be toggle buttons. When you click on a button, it stays pressed in as long as its filter is in effect. If you click on a different button, the old button pops back out and the new one stays pressed in. If you click on a letter button that is already pressed in, it pops out and the filter is removed. Similarly, Search -> Clear resets the filter and pops the active letter button back out. Does that make sense? Does it sould like a good idea?
Hrm. It actually sounds like a really good idea but it definitely violates the UI and documentation freeze so it'll have to be post-1.0.
This is a great great idea. This is related as well to bug 212904.
Because of the decision to remap 1.1->1.2 and 1.2->1.4, I'm going to be moving a large number of bugs around in the bugzilla. You can just search on 'body contains' 'Because of the decision to remap' and mark all as read. Please direct all questions about this change to evolution@ximian.com, not the bug. Luis
Major, as it's quite unusable right now.
I think that the search bar option menu should be made inactive, and the search bar entry should read "Name begins with: A" or "Last name begins with: A" or "Filed under: "A", whichever is truer. This reminds the user again of which search is going on, and associates the alphabetical sorting with the search bar, which makes it more clear how to clear the search. Anna.
Fixed in CVS.
