GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 166976
Gimp cannot import Photoshop layer masks correctly from PSD files
Last modified: 2006-07-12 18:18:20 UTC
Please describe the problem: Opening a photoshop file with layer masks does not show the layers correctly. It just shows them as single coloured layers. It was mentioned to me that it does not work in version 2.2.3 either. It works ok in Gimp version 1.2.5 Steps to reproduce: 1. Just opening a photoshop file with layer masks will reproduce the error. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: You can download a photoshop file showing this behaviour from http://th-mack.de/opengeo/eu02_small.psd.zip (184,440 bytes, 6 layers photoshop file, 280x360 pixel).
See also bug #109841.
Confirmed with GIMP 2.2.
Fixed in cvs head. The sample file now loads correctly.
Is this about to be backported or can we close this bug as FIXED?
I have backported this bug to the 2.2 branch. Closing as fixed.
Broken again in latest development release. :-( Also says Photoshop format doesn't allow alpha masks wehn saving, which is quite ridiculous since Photoshop handles alpha masks just fine (better than Gimp, IMHO).
It says that the plug-in doesn't handle this. If you know how to store alpha masks in psd files, you could add this to the plug-in.
What do you mean, it is broken again? What version did work for you, which version exactly doesn't?
Sean, please answer Sven's question.
Closing this bug report as no further information has been provided. Please feel free to reopen this bug if you can provide the information Sven asked for. Thanks!
